Road Transportation Schedule

The traffic in Cambodia is quite anarchic, specially in the main cities. So be careful and having a driver is a good thing.
The improvement of the quality of the roads aims to give many more opportunities to Cambodian to move from one place to an other one. Most of the road are two ways traffic. .
To move by bus or public taxi remains not expensive.
In the bus, you are always sit, in a comfortable manner, with air con, DVD khmer or karaoke. Some lines give fresh water or some cakes. Medium fare, for 300km is about $5 and the distance covered in 6h including 2 stops, for lunch.

. Since 2008 the prices are mainly increased by 20 % with the unusal price of gasoline. By december 2008, the oil price is quite neart to Riels 3200 (about $0.80)... but increased seat the prices did not change... It'is a good time for the foreigners to enjoy the local khmer cooking, delivered in these stop-shops in open air, in very short delays, just enough time to have dinner and go to toilet...
Be advised that returning from Siem Reap the main companies stop, befor Kompong Thom, half way from Phnom Pen in a "restaurant" that is a shy for these transport companies. Dirty, unclean, exclusively for khmers, really avoid to eat in these places . For the toilett, the best is not to go there, even for a visit... We have stated this fact to the companies. Many young sellers or adults try to sell their local products, like cooked duck eggs, accompanied with salt and pepper in a small grey bag, fruits cut in parts, beetles or spiders cooked in oil, for the lovers, and others local specialities with rice in bamboo, etc. If you like the ananas, mind you, because the khmers usually put the fruit in salted water... Check before taste.
Of course many kinds of drinks in can, plastic bottles, etc. Usually the prices resquested are very reasonnable, close to the one that the khmer pay, even if you are foreigner
These sales are the main revenues for sellers coming from their neighbourhood village. And they give you free a tremendous smile. Unforgettable. In case you buy to sellers and want to eat these food in the restaurant, their is no problem to do so.
Sometimes the bus stop in the countryside, on the request of a traveler that want to be stopped close to his home.
In the main cities, the bus stations stand at the border of the city, in a windy, dusty or muddy place, depends on the season.
So, enjoy the country and have a nice trip.
